What is Noke500?

The Noke500 is a fundraising challenge that encourages alumni to come together and support Roanoke College. An anonymous alumni family has extended a $25,000 challenge to other alumni to make 500 gifts in 48 hours. This is a full team effort, and Roanoke needs you to show that you’re ALL IN by giving to the Noke500 between December 8 and December 10, 2015.

What does it mean to be “ALL IN” for Roanoke?

Roanoke College is supported by its wonderful Maroon family in many ways—alumni all over the U.S. and abroad proudly share about the College’s accomplishments, help with recruiting, serve as mentors, volunteer on committees, and attend events both on and off campus. Time and school pride are absolutely valuable, but the College needs alumni, family, and friends to show their financial support in order to continue thriving and growing. This challenge is asking you to take your support for the College to the next level, by making a gift of any size and showing that you’re ALL IN for Noke.

Why is there a Noke500?

Every student who attends Roanoke has benefited from gifts. In turn, once you become an alum you can make a big impact in this community. The Noke500 continues this great tradition and helps Roanoke receive a $25,000 challenge gift. Plus, 500 alumni gifts will greatly move the needle on Roanoke’s alumni participation.

What is alumni participation, and why does it matter?

Alumni participation is a measure of the number of alumni who give each fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Alumni participation for a school is determined by the following calculation:

# of alumni who made a gift (of any amount) this year


Total # of living alumni

Giving matters. It strengthens Roanoke and helps ensure that the College will be here for future generations. It also reassures other people and organizations that Roanoke is a worthwhile investment. They reason, if alumni give, then Roanoke must be a quality school that has earned its great reputation. Plus, many national rankings use alumni giving as a vote of confidence. Every alum is included, so how will you be counted?

Where do gifts go?

Gifts made during the Noke500 will support the Roanoke Fund. The Roanoke Fund is the College’s fund for Roanoke’s greatest needs each year. Annual giving strengthens academic programs and enhances student life, helps to recruit and retain our renowned faculty, advances our campus infrastructure, supports scholarships and provides equipment for athletic teams, technology for classrooms, resources for research, books for the library and so much more. Every aspect of what makes Roanoke a great college is powered forward by the Roanoke Fund.

What if I want to direct my gift to a different area of campus or a specific department?

Gifts to any area of campus still count in the Noke500 and help with the alumni participation rate. Feel free to designate your gift to the area that means the most to you. During the official Noke500 (December 8-10), you can visit and specify where you would like to make an impact. If you want to pre-qualify for the Race (between November 18 and December 8), you may call 540-375-2234 (or toll-free, 1-866-RCGIVE1) and ask our Gift Coordinator to ensure that your donation goes to your specific area of interest. Be sure to mention you are part of the Noke500.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

No. Gifts of any amount make an impact.

Can I make multiple gifts?

Yes; however, you can only be counted once as a donor in the Noke500 challenge. If your spouse is an alum as well, both of you count.

Can I change my teams after I've made my gift?

Yes! If you selected teams or individuals to challenge when you made your gift, you can still go back to edit, view, or change them in two different ways. 1) The thank you email you received after completing your donation includes a link that will take you directly to your teams. This page also includes the option to share your teams to social media and issue a new challenge if you’d like. 2) If you don’t have the email, you can still view/edit your teams by entering your email address and zip code to bring up the teams you selected when you gave. Make sure to use the same email and zip you used when donating!

What are the conditions related to any prizes that may be given during the challenge?

  1. If prizes are offered during the challenge, only one prize may be claimed per participant.
  2. Every donor who makes a gift during the challenge will be entered into a grand prize drawing.
  3. Gifts must be made online to enter the gift contests. Pledges do not count towards entries.
  4. All prize winners will be notified by the College. Prizes not claimed by January 11, 2016, will be forfeited by the winners.
  5. The College reserves the right, at its discretion, to change or substitute any prize offered or won with one of equal value.
  6. Insufficient entries to meet the minimum required will cancel a contest.
  7. Chances of winning are dependent upon the number of eligible entries for each contest.

How can I register to win prizes and giveaways during the Noke500?

Your gift of any size at before noon, December 10, automatically enters you into drawings for prizes and giveaways during the Noke500, including the $500 VISA Card Grand Prize! If you do not wish to make a gift but would still like to register as a participant, fill out this form with your name, home address, cell phone, home phone, and email address. Either way, we’re thankful for your support!

Can I make a gift by mail or telephone?

Yes, as long as you call during the 48-hour challenge. Call 866-RC GIVE1 or 866-724-4831 to make your gift over the phone. You may also make your gift via your smart phone at

Is it safe to make my gift online?

Yes. The information collected during the challenge is only used by Roanoke College. It will not be sold to or shared with any third-party.

Is my Noke500 contribution tax deductible?

Yes. Your gift is tax deductible. You will receive an email confirmation that will serve as your receipt for tax purposes. You will receive a separate acknowledgement letter.

Do I have to make a donation in order to post a message?

No. Spreading the word about the challenge still helps the College. Be sure to use the hashtag #Noke500 on your social media accounts, and make sure your privacy setting allows everyone to see your post. Roanoke may even share your posts.
